Assessing Public Acceptance of Autonomous Vehicles for Smart and Sustainable Public Transportation in Urban Areas: A Case Study of Jakarta, Indonesia

Abstract: This study examines the benefits and drawbacks of autonomous public transit vehicles among 210 Indonesians. Some 25% of respondents knew nothing about driverless vehicles, whereas 14% did. The average 5-point Likert scale response was 3.12 (SD = 1.05), indicating intermediate expertise. Some 42% of respondents used autonomous vehicle sources such as public transport, 47% had no experience, and 11% were doubtful. The survey items’ Cronbach’s alpha score is 0.873, indicating strong internal consistency and relia… Show more

“…Automated vehicle controllability in any scenario especially in emergency situations plays a key role in the safety system design. Public acceptance [20], [26], [27] is another important factor that improves with the capabilities of the safety systems. More and more intelligent safety mechanisms need to be part of the automated vehicles to mitigate this risk in the future and cover all types of scenarios in a proactive and distinguishable way.…”

“…As advancements in technologies such as electric propulsion and autonomous driving continue, the emergence of electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft products [1,2] has raised the prospect of realizing advanced air mobility (AAM) [3]. Due to the characteristics of eVTOL, including high speed and independence from ground congestion, numerous studies predict significant development potential for AAM in areas such as logistics [4][5][6], flying cars [7], and transportation [8][9][10][11][12].…”
