Recycling of products has a great impact on contemporary sustainable business strategies. In this study, a sustainable recycling process in a production-inventory model for an imperfect production system with a fixed ratio of recyclable defective products is introduced. The piecewise constant demand rates of the non-defective items are considered under production run-time, production off-time with positive stock, and production off-time with shortages under varying conditions. Based on the production process, two cases are studied using this model. The first case does not consider recycling processes, while the second case picks up all defective items before sending these items to recycling during the production off-time; the recycled items are added to the main inventory. The aim of this study is to minimize the total cost and identify the optimal order quantity. The manufacturing process with the recycling process provides a better result compared to without recycling in the first case. Some theoretical derivations are developed to enunciate the objective function using the classical optimization technique. To validate the proposed study, sensitivity analysis is performed, and numerical examples are given. Finally, some managerial insights and the scope of future research are provided.

This study contributes to identifying a valid and reliable set of barriers to sustainable solid waste management framework rooted in society 5.0 perspectives in Taiwan. In nature, the hierarchical structure is with the causal interrelationships under uncertainties. The perspective empowers the creation of a new biosphere based on technological progress, but in the sustainable solid waste management field, it is difficult to encounter and shape the systematized processes due to barriers and challenges. To address this shortcoming, this study evaluates the technical challenges faced in the field of sustainable solid waste management toward society 5.0. The valid attributes are usually described the qualitative information. The fuzzy Delphi method is applied to acquire the valid and reliable attributes. Fuzzy decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory experiment is to visualize the causal interrelationships among the attributes. Choquet integral with respect to the nonadditive attributes over the valid set provides an overall perspective function. The results establish an understanding of sustainable solid waste management barriers in the perspectives under uncertainties. Community uncertainty, policy and regulation problems, city architecture, and technology interaction are the factors that influence sustainable performance. In practices, (1) diverse disciplines and sectors in local, national, and global communities, (2) a lack of mobility and reliability, (3) mass production and mass consumption, (4) an insufficient level of artificial intelligence application, and (5) failures related to data management and security hinder the improvement of sustainable solid waste management toward society 5.0.

This study contributes to investigating the interrelationships among circular supply chain strategy (CSCY) attributes in Industry 4.0 (I4.0), and it provides practical implications for the canned food industry. Prior studies are inadequate in determining CSCY attributes in I4.0 with a thorough viewpoint under qualitative information. To fill this gap, this study aims to determine the crucial CSCY attributes in I4.0 together with their interrelationships. A hybrid method including text mining, cluster analysis, the fuzzy Delphi method (FDM), the fuzzy decision‐making trial and evaluation laboratory (FDEMATEL), and the analytical network process (ANP) is utilized. Five aspects and 25 criteria from the original set of attributes are validated. In the results, the causal group consists of circular production strategy and technological advancement, while the effect group includes waste circulation, a circular product‐service system (PSS), and circular integration. The critical criteria cover cleaner production, resource efficiency, the Internet of Things (IoT), robotics applications, and industrial symbiosis.
