Aspectos biológicos de Diapterus rhombeus (Cuvier) (Teleostei, Gerreidae) na Baía de Guaratuba, Paraná, Brasil

Abstract: ABSTRACT. BIOLOGICAI. ASPECTS OF DIAPTF.RUS RHOMBF.US (CUVIER) (TEI.EOSTEI, GERREIDAE)AT GUARA TUBA BAY, PARANÁ, BRAZIL. Diapterus rhombeus (Cuvier, 1829) is one of the most COl11mon Gerreidae species in the estuarine region at the Guaratuba Bay, Southern Brazil. Based on studies developed between July, 1993 and Januruy, 1997, it was observed that its presence in the mangrove area is not regular: the smallest individuais are more abundant during late su mmer and in autumn, and the largest ones during spring a… Show more

“…It is likely that the E. brasilianus may migrate for reproductive purposes from fresh water to coastal environment, having sheltered and good food supply near the mouth of a river as a transitional environment/area, thus completing their reproductive cycle. Such hypothesis is consistent with the findings of Chaves & Otto (1998) with rhombeus Diapterus species, and also with Barbanti et al (2013) analyzing the fauna fish in the Bertioga Channel in São Paulo.…”

“…A. januaria forms large schools and is associated with the internal areas of bays and estuaries; it is influenced by continental drainage and less saline waters. Juveniles of D. rhombeus prefer shallow mesohaline areas, such as beaches and mangrove channels, to grow and store somatic reserves during the reproductive period (MENEZES; FIGUEIREDO, 1980;OTTO, 1998). H. clupeola (zooplanktivorous marine straggler) and A. tricolor (zooplanktivorous estuarine species) were more abundant in the euhaline sectora finding was not in accord with observations from other estuaries (FALCÃO et al, 2006;FÉLIX et al, 2006;OLIVEIRA-NETO et al, 2008;CONTENTE et al, 2011a).…”

“…Studies with silver mojarra have been conducted on its biology (ETCHEVERS, 1978;CHAVES;OTTO, 1998;SILVA et al, 2011) and distribution aspects (ARAÚJO; SANTOS, 1999;AYALA-PEREZ et al, 2001;COSTA et al, 2012). However, the digestibility of ingredients has not been the subject of research and this is a major step for the development of an efficient diet to promote a better nutritional status for the animals.…”
