Abstract: RESUMEN: La estomatitis protésica (ESP) es una alteración de la mucosa de soporte de diverso grado de severidad, que puede complicarse clínicamente con la presencia de levaduras del género Candida (LGC). “…Although DS presents a multifactorial etiology, including predisposing factors of both local and systemic type, the erythematous inflammatory oral denture-contacting mucosa reaction is triggered by the colonization and overgrowth of C. albicans, its complex co-aggregation with oral bacteria, and consequent production of hydrolytic enzymes that break down the epithelial surface [61]. Moreover, the severity of DS is specifically related to the presence of C. albicans in 72% patients [62]. Thus, the preventive effect on DS exhibited by our nCu/PMMA denture can be explained by the broad-spectrum antimicrobial efficacy of copper, which was demonstrated on both C. albicans and a few representative oral bacteria.…”
