Abstract: Definição:Denomina-se ascite ao acúmulo de líquido livre de origem patológica na cavidade peritoneal. O termo ascite tem origem na palavra grega "askos" que significa saco ou conteúdo de um saco. Deste radical derivou "askites" e depois "ascite".
