Arquitetura bancária: a presença nas cidades e a conversão de seus espaços frente à virtualização dos serviços

Abstract

This article discusses the architecture of bank branches and the spatial and usage changes that have occurred in the face of constant technological change in the activity. The main objective is to show the logic underlying the processes of permanence of bank branch buildings in the urban landscape in the face of increasing virtualization of financial services, highlighting the maintenance of the image of the institutions by adapting to the contemporary world. The methodology used is based on bibliographic and iconographic research, of an exploratory and qualitative nature. The results achieved refer to the survey of bank branches of important institutions in the economic world, located in privileged locations, which currently have new uses. In the end, it appears that the permanence of the spaces of certain bank branches, even if converted into new uses, presents itself as a strategy for maintaining the image and memory of large banks.
