Arguments for the definition of the ict skills for prospective teachers: university student perception about the role of teachers of mathematics in secondary

Abstract

Abstract:In this paper we analyze the main factors (or indicators) that may be present in the use of technology resources, specifically the use of Personal Computer (PC) and, thus, try to infer about possible ways to take advantage of this resource. The main objective of this research was to determine the perception of university students about the role of secondary mathematics teacher, specifically from the technological perspective. For this purpose, we administered a survey to collect information of 264 students in a course of Introductory Mathematics MAX -084, in the first half of 2010 at the Universidad Nacional in Costa Rica. Principally, regarding how the mathematics teacher influenced the development of technological skills, useful for further training at the University.Keywords: Technological competencies. Teaching. Teacher training.Resumen: En este artículo se analizan los principales factores (o indicadores) que pueden estar presentes en el uso de recursos tecnológicos, específicamente el uso de la computadora personal (PC) y de esta manera, tratar de inferir sobre posibles rutas para el aprovechamiento de este recurso. El objetivo de esta investigación fue el determinar la percepción del estudiante universitario respecto al papel del profesor de matemática en Secundaria, específicamente sobre la componente tecnológica. Para esto, se administró una encuesta a 264 estudiantes del curso de Matemática Introductoria MAX-084 en el primer semestre del 2010 en la Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica. Pre-Service Mathematics Teachers’ Views about GeoGebra and Its Use

“…On the other hand there are studies that indicate usage of technology in mathematics lessons improves success of mathematics by making positive contribution for learning of students (Dikovic, 2009;Seloraji & Kwan-Eu, 2017). In consideration of the opportunities that technology presented for learning, the use of technology is a necessity and beyond preference anymore (López, 2011;NCTM, 2000) and technology should be used as a learning instrument for improving learning opportunities of the students by including them in mathematics lessons (Van De Walle, Karp & Bay-Williams, 2012/2010). In the light of this information, it is stated that information and communication technologies should be used for learning and teaching mathematics effectively in current elementary school mathematics curriculum in Turkey (Ministry of National Education, [MoNE], 2013) as well and the use of technology is encouraged, especially in geometry lessons.…”
