“…This information, together with the results indicating no significant changes in anxiety-like behavior or in locomotor activity, support the use of Turnera diffusa as an aphrodisiac in traditional medicine. Additional literature data suggest that the aqueous extract of Turnera diffusa enhances sexual performance by facilitating sexual reflexes, i.e., the extract relaxes the smooth muscle of the corpus cavernosum of Guinea pigs (Hnatyszyn et al, 2003) and reduces the NI and EL in sluggish rats (Arletti et al, 1999). A reduction in the NM, NI or EL denotes a facilitation of the consummatory aspect of male sexual behavior (Clark et al, 1984(Clark et al, , 1985; hence, the pro-sexual effects of Turnera diffusa migth be mediated by a mixed mechanism involving both central and peripheral regulation.…”
