“…Indeed, legislation over a woman's right to choose has recently been—or is currently being—discussed in countries across the globe including Australia (Kallios, 2021), Ecuador (Daniels, 2019), Germany (Sanyal, 2020), Mexico (BBC News, 2020), New Zealand (Little, 2020), Northern Ireland (McCormack, 2021), Poland (Pronczuk, 2020), and the United States (Borger, 2020). Yet there is a surprising paucity of research examining why women's reproductive rights remain divisive despite important, albeit gradual, strides toward gender equality in other areas (e.g., see England et al, 2020; Gomes et al, 2022; Huang et al, 2019). A comprehensive examination of the demographic and ideological correlates of abortion attitudes is therefore needed to advance understanding of an enduring—and hotly contested—issue that is central to the women's rights movement.…”
