Are Antifibrinolytic Agents Effective in the Treatment of Aneurysmal Subarachnoid Hemorrhage?

Abstract: Antifibrinolytic agents for the treatment of patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage may decrease rebleeding but appear to increase cerebral ischemia and do not reduce mortality or severe disability.

“…Individuals who are most likely to comment are those with particularly strong (and often negative) opinions [23]. Further, although we treated each unique username as a unique person, it was possible that the same person may have used different usernames on different news sites, or even that persons were creating, and posting under, multiple accounts on the same news site to bolster the perceived support of a particular viewpoint.…”

“…In addition, compared to other forms of social media such as Twitter, users can post more detailed opinions without restriction on the number of characters. The disadvantages include the fact that the population of online commenter do not necessarily reflect the general population, or HCWs, and that more negative voices tend to be more vocal online [23]. To understand Canadians’ perceptions of the seasonal influenza vaccination as a condition of service for HCWs, we evaluated readers’ responses to online newspaper articles after the BC policy was announced but before it was upheld in arbitration [16].…”

“…Some comments suggested that it might be related to increased incidence of hydrocephalus and epilepsy [8,9]. Aiming to emphasize relevant therapeutic effects previously ignored due to small samples and to better focus on adverse events during the disease treatment course, we performed this analysis to assess the safety and effectiveness of TXA in patients with aneurysmal SAH.…”

“…Recently, the ULTRA, a multicenter prospective, randomized, controlled, open-label trial with 955 participants from 8 treatment centers and 16 referring hospitals, assessed the effects of ultra-early tranexamic acid for aneurysmal SAH and showed a slight reduction in mortality but not in rebleeding after randomization and before aneurysm treatment as well as in the improvement of clinical outcome at 6 months [7]. Some comments suggest that it might be associated with increased incidence of hydrocephalus and epilepsy [8,9]. Aiming to emphasize relevant curative effects previously missed because of small samples and to better focus on adverse events during the disease treatment course, we conducted a meta-analysis to evaluate the e cacy and safety of tranexamic acid in the treatment of aneurysmal SAH.…”
