Aus einer historisch-wissenssoziologischen Perspektive geht der Beitrag der Frage nach, wie sich der Migrationsbegriff in zwei gesellschaftlichen Sphären, Wissenschaft und Öffentlichkeit, im letzten Jahrhundert gewandelt hat. Was wird unter Migration verstanden und was nicht? Welche Kategorien werden in der Migrationsdebatte benutzt und inwiefern spiegeln sie politische und wissenschaftliche Paradigmen wider? Ziel ist es, wissenschaftliche Kategorisierungspraktiken in ihrem Zusammenhang zu den staatlich-administrativen Klassifikationen sowie zu den Kategorien der öffentlichen-medialen Debatte zu beleuchten.
