Arabidopsis PLC2 is involved in auxin‐modulated reproductive development

Abstract: SUMMARYPhospholipase C (PLC) is an enzyme that plays crucial roles in various signal transduction pathways in mammalian cells. However, the role of PLC in plant development is poorly understood. Here we report involvement of PLC2 in auxin-mediated reproductive development in Arabidopsis. Disruption of PLC2 led to sterility, indicating a significant role for PLC2 in reproductive development. Development of both male and female gametophytes was severely perturbed in plc2 mutants. Moreover, elevated auxin levels … Show more

“…Studies in Arabidopsis indicate that PI‐PLCs play important roles in growth, development, and stress response. AtPLC2 is essential for seedling growth and reproductive development (Kanehara et al, ; Li et al, ). AtPLC3 and AtPLC9 positively regulate thermos‐tolerance in Arabidopsis (Liu et al, ; Zheng et al, ).…”

“…AtPLC1 regulates the expression of KIN1, RD29A and RD22 in response to ABA (Sanchez & Chua 2001). AtPLC2 modulates the biosynthesis of auxin during reproductive development by affecting the expression of YUC genes (Li et al 2015), and AtPLC2 also regulates the expression of BiP3, CNX and CRT in response to ER stress (Kanehara et al 2015). AtPLC3 and AtPLC9 regulate heat-shock protein (HSP) expression during heat shock (Liu et al 2006;Zheng et al 2012).…”

“…AtPLC1 is required for the secondary responses to ABA, and increased AtPLC1 activity is necessary for maximal gene induction by ABA (Sanchez & Chua 2001). AtPLC2 contributes to the ER stress response and auxin-modulated reproductive development (Kanehara et al 2015;Li et al 2015). AtPLC3 and AtPLC9 have an additive effect on regulating thermotolerance (Zheng et al 2012;Gao et al 2014).…”

“…Phosphoinositide-specific phospholipase C family protein (PLC), encoded by 7-1, was predicted to play an important role in signal transduction processes, mediating the cellular actions of a variety of hormones and growth factors. For example, PLC2 is involved in auxin biosynthesis and signaling, thus modulating the development of both male and female gametophytes in Arabidopsis [30]. The stress-induced Ca 2+ signaling, which is essential for controlling Na + accumulation in leaf blades, is dependent on phospholipase C (PLC) in Oryza sativa, thus establishing whole plant salt tolerance [31].…”
