Aquaculture genomics, genetics and breeding in the United States: current status, challenges, and priorities for future research

Abstract: Advancing the production efficiency and profitability of aquaculture is dependent upon the ability to utilize a diverse array of genetic resources. The ultimate goals of aquaculture genomics, genetics and breeding research are to enhance aquaculture production efficiency, sustainability, product quality, and profitability in support of the commercial sector and for the benefit of consumers. In order to achieve these goals, it is important to understand the genomic structure and organization of aquaculture spec… Show more

“…以前曾有人将水产养殖产业中出现的产量"盛衰" 现象归咎于市场波动等经济行为, 而最近研究表明, 水 产养殖产量下降与该物种近交衰退及病害直接相 关 [173] , 且产量和效益取决于其遗传资源的利用率 [174] . 28,50,68,69,95] .…”

“…It is expected that the fast methodological advances will allow for a better understanding of the epigenetic mechanisms and, consequently, their transgenerational transfer, whereas breeding programmes based on the knowledge of the factors that are involved in phenotypic expression – epigenomic programming – will contribute to more species‐specific sustainable aquaculture practices (Li & Leatherland ; Abdelrahman et al . ) with increased revenue.…”
