Appraisal of Biogas Potential of Biogas from Animal Dung in Saeedabad, Pakistan

Abstract: Pakistan is facing energy scarcity. The biogas is one of the renewable substitutes. It does not only overcome the energy scarcity but also harness the energy from animal dung which causes the CO 2 emissions. The present study was done on the appraisal of potential of biogas from the dung of animals (Buffaloes, Cows, Goats and Sheep) within the villages surrounded by Taluka Saeedabad. The purpose of the study was the energy potential of the biogas and the selection of the most suitable design and size of the bi… Show more

“…This indicates an immense potential through the dung produced from these animals. The potential further can be authenticated from the findings of Shah and Sahito (2017) where they calculated 129 ton/day animal dung from cattle, buffalo, goat and sheep. A single buffalo and cow can produce 19-28 kg/day and 10 kg/day animal dung, respectively (NERC, 2016;Vija, 2006).…”

“…From each kg of fresh animals dung about 0.03 m 3 biogas can be produced (Akinbami et al, 2001). Shah and Sahito (2017) augmented that average potential of biogas in villages of Pakistan is 12-804 m 3 /day while average required biogas to meet domestic affairs is 8-520 m 3 /day. About 6kWh of electricity can be produced from 1 m 3 of biogas in Pakistan (Ahmad, 2010).…”

“…Pakistan is producing 129 ton/day animal dung collections that can make a possible quantity of biogas. The average amount of biogas 12-804 m3/ day can be produced through animal dung in the village area of Pakistan (Shah & Sahito, 2017). The government of Pakistan has started a biogas project by using biogas technology for social benefit in 1974.…”

“…The huge population of animals across the Pakistan further accentuate the potential of biogas generation through the animals' dung. (Shah and Sahito, 2017) calculated 129 ton/day collection of animal dung in Pakistan which could help in producing adequate quantity of biogas. According to (Akinbami et al, 2001), from each kg of animal dung average 0.03 m3 biogas can be produced.…”

“…According to (Akinbami et al, 2001), from each kg of animal dung average 0.03 m3 biogas can be produced. Whereas, taking the statistics into account, average 12-804 m3/day biogas can be produced in villages of Pakistan from the animal dung (Shah and Sahito, 2017). In order to benefit from the biogas technology, the Government of Pakistan initiated a biogas project in 1974 and installed 4137 biogas plants by 1987 in the rural areas.…”
