Tumour necrosis factor is a polypeptide cytokine involved in inflammation and the acute phase response. TNF-alpha is present in larger quantities in persons with rheumatoid arthritis. Direct inhibition of TNF-α by the commercial biological agents has produced significant advances in rheumatoid arthritis treatment and validated the extra-cellular inhibition of this proinflammatory cytokine as an effective therapy. However, viable leads molecule that inhibits TNF-α have not been reported . Bioinformatics is seen as an emerging field with the potential to significantly improve how drugs are found brought to the clinical trials and eventually released to the marketplace. Computer-Aided Drug Design (CADD) is a specialized discipline that uses computational methods to stimulate drug-protein interaction. Discovery studio 2.1 provides a set of protocols for predicting and analyzing the interaction between protein and ligands. Molecular Docking experiments were carried out for the compounds identified from Pseudarthria viscida root extract with TNF-alpha using Accelry's DISCOVERY STUDIO 2.1. Docking is a method which predicts the preferred orientation of one molecule to a second when bound to each other to form a stable complex. Out of 13 compounds characterized from Pseudarthria viscida, only one of them docked with Tumour necrosis factor α.

In traditional medicine, cumin seeds were used as stomachic, diuretic, carminative, stimulant, astringent and abortifacient properties. Its seeds are used commonly for herbal drink preparation in Kerala and consumed as part of diet. The present study was carried out to investigate the phytochemical profile, total phenol content, antioxidant and anthelmintic activity of hot water extracts of seeds of Cuminum cyminum. Phytochemical analysis showed the presence of saponins, steroids, alkaloids, phenols and tannins. The total phenol content in 5 µg/ µl hot water extract is 50 µg/ µl phenol expressed as catechol equivalent. The radical scavenging potential showed dose dependent increase on increasing the concentration of cumin seed extracts 1-5 µg. IC50 value of seeds was 1.82 µg/µl. Anthelmintic activity also showed dose dependant increase.

Traditional knowledge and ethno-botanical use of plants have been widely acknowledged all over the world. The cicatrizing properties of extracts obtained from this plant have been scientifically studied, attributing the main biological activity to its tannin and flavonoid content. Recent commercialization of the plant drug Adiantum capillus veneris Linn. requires pharmacognostical information to develop quality-control methods for raw materials and extracts produced with this plant drug. Macro and micromorphological parameters were established to authenticate the genuine drug that allowed detection of adulterants usually found in commercial samples of this plant material. All the parameters were studied according to WHO guidelines and Indian Pharmacopoeia. These morphological characteristics can be used for rapid identification of the drug and are particularly useful in the case of powdered materials. Physicochemical parameters such as total ash, water soluble ash, acid insoluble ash, sulphated ash, crude fibre content, loss on drying, percentage of foreign matter and extractive values were determined. Preliminary phytochemical screening in different solvents showed the presence of steroids, flavonoids, terpenoids, fats, tannins and phenolic compounds. TLC profiling of plant extracts gives an idea about the presence of various phytochemicals. The results of the study can serve as a valuable source of information and provide suitable standards for identification of this plant material in future investigations and applications.
