With the global awareness of sustainability issues, sustainable development is being increasingly recognized by governments and industries. In addressing these issues, organizations worldwide have taken initiatives in adopting sustainability practices in their supply chain transferring it to sustainable supply chain management. In order to establish a responsible sustainable supply chain management, an effective way would be to make sure that the potential suppliers for procuring required components are precisely assessed and evaluated based on sustainable criteria. Therefore, this paper proposes a practical decision making approach to evaluate and select the most sustainable suppliers for an automotive spare part manufacturer licensed under a France-based automotive organization. Firstly, a requirement gathering approach, the audition check-list approach, is designed to facilitate the process of data gathering for supplier evaluation based on three pillars of sustainability. Next, the gathered data are processed using a proposed fuzzy inference system to remove impreciseness and vagueness in the gathered sustainability related data. The strength of this model falls into its applicability in data gathering phase which helps decision makers in manufacturing company to perform a fast audition of a typical supplier. Secondly, the final sustainable ranking of suppliers using the proposed fuzzy inference system provide a precise and less uncertain sustainability performance scoring which makes the developed approach a reliable system for making sustainable sourcing decisions. Comparison and sensitivity analysis are performed to evaluate the proficiency of the developed approach. Finally, theoretical and managerial implications together with conclusions of the study are presented.

Abstract:Growing environmental awareness coupled with stricter governmental regulations has fueled the need for integrating sustainability into supply chain and logistics activities. Accordingly, recent studies in the literature have emphasized the significance of environmentally concerned logistics operations (ECLO). Research in the broad area of ECLO encompasses a wide range of topics including sustainable supply chain, green supply chain, closed-loop supply chain, low-carbon logistics, and waste management. In this paper, a comprehensive content analysis and area review is presented. Over 800 papers published between 1994 and 2017 in peer-reviewed journals, proceedings, and book chapters are utilized. These papers are analyzed in consecutive stages after being reviewed under a structural dimension process that addresses the fields of environmentally concerned logistics operations. Following the state-of-the-art review, a detailed analysis of ECLO research with a special emphasis on fuzzy applications is provided. The findings clearly indicate that the fuzzy multi-criteria decision making technique is a frequently used hybrid method, whereas fuzzy sets theory and other fuzzy hybrid techniques identify a gap in the related literature. This paper provides further critical analysis and other research suggestions in order to clarify these gaps and offer additional research perspectives. This information may provide extensive data that will enable future researchers to fill these gaps within this field.

Previous studies have proven that enterprises addressing green supply chain management problem may produce an apparent improvement to their stockholder interests. According to the report of Kearney (Carbon Disclosure Project: supply chain report 2010. CDP, London, 2010), more than 80 % of the carbon emissions are generated from the suppliers' activities in a company's performance. Many members of the project claimed that they will reassess their suppliers as soon as possible. Therefore, to combine the carbon management issue and supplier evaluating problem turns to be a very crucial work. Therefore, this study intends to develop a framework of the supplier evaluating process for carbon management by integrating fuzzy ANP and fuzzy TOPSIS approaches. Thirteen criteria of carbon management under four dimensions were identified by literature review and modified according to the opinion of seven experts in the environmental department. The model result in a case company shows that three of the most important criteria are ''carbon governance,'' ''carbon policy'' and ''carbon reduction targets.'' The proposed hybrid methodology has great ability to explain the vagueness of decision maker's expression and better discrimination power to evaluate suppliers in carbon management.
