“…16 Later, NIRS was used to predict the geographical origin of cork stoppers combined with visible spectroscopy (Vis) and multivariate analysis, using samples from Portugal, Morocco, and Spain, in the last case in three geographical areas (Andalusia, Extremadura, and Catalonia). 17 This report discriminated cork planks with a 5% error and cork stoppers with a 10% error, with the most important absorption bands (1200, 1450, 1730, 1930, and 2140 nm) for discrimination assigned, but no correlation was achieved with the components or characteristics that explain the classification by origin. Following this report, Vis/NIRS spectroscopy was applied to study the chemical composition and physical and mechanical parameters of cork stoppers, and promising models (SEP 1.13%, R EV 2 = 0.55) were obtained to predict total polyphenols constructed by MPLS.…”
