Application of the Principles of Green Chemistry for the Development of a New and Sensitive Method for Analysis of Ertapenem Sodium by Capillary Electrophoresis

Abstract: An innovative method is validated for the analysis of ertapenem sodium by capillary electrophoresis using potassium phosphate buffer 10 mM pH 7 and 15 kV voltage, in the concentration range of 70 to 120 μg mL−1. Ertapenem had a migration time of 3.15 minutes and the linearity curve was y = 2281.7 x - 24495 with a R2 = 0.9994. Thus, we propose a routine analysis method that meets the principles of green analytical chemistry for the routine analysis of ertapenem sodium by capillary electrophoresis.

“…With the trend of "back to nature", more efficient, economical, and environmentally friendly methods are required [7]. Among modern analytical separation techniques, CE, featuring convenient operation, high efficiency, quick analysis, and low solvent consumption in determining analytes, is a good alternative choice to meet the requirements of modern green chemistry [8]. Hence, it becomes an effective tool in the analysis of trace amounts of analytes in complex matrices such as biological sam-ples and traditional Chinese medicines [9][10][11].…”

“…In addition, they do not present any danger for the operator. Although CE is intrinsically a green analytical method, this appellation is scarcely used and reported in literature [20][21][22][23].…”

“…Furthermore, a greener approach to potentially routine analytical methods makes them cheaper, and thus more sustainable in the long term. Capillary electrophoresis has been shown to be a great tool for achieving these goals [ 11 , 12 , 13 , 14 ].…”
