Application of seismic attributes to delineate the geological features of the Malay Basin

Abstract: The Melor-field of the Malay basin has been investigated using several seismic attributes to present the geological elements accurately. This study used a new seismic attribute to represent the geological features of the study interval. Besides, the application of some seismic attributes was applied to reveal the structural and geomorphological features of the Melor-field. The limited available wells (Melor-Well-1 & Melor-well-2) in the study area resulted in high uncertainty regarding petrophysical parameters… Show more

“…A fault line is a collection of one or more digitized fault segments. Continue picking on successive vertical displays as required on all over the seismic lines affected by faults [38]. The fault segments for each fault were traced over the available seismic sections which are automatically triangulated in used software to give a fault surfaces.…”

“…More recently, scienfic focus has shied to understanding the petroleum system (Bishop, 2002;Doust & Sumner, 2007;Doust, 2017;Madon et al, 2006;Nayak et al, 2023;Petersen et al, 2011), overpressure (Ahmed Sa et al, 2016;Madon, 2007;Tingay et al, 2011Tingay et al, , 2013, subtle stragraphic and structural features at either the field-scale (Almasgari et al, 2020;Babkir et al, 2022;Hou et al, 2008) or the regional-scale (Alqahtani et al, 2015(Alqahtani et al, , 2017Miall, 2002) and the emerging basement hydrocarbon play (Madon et al, 2020). The only recent regional reassessment of the geological structure is that of Mansor et al (2014), who used insights from the interpretaon of deep (8 s TWT) regional 2D lines to describe the basement structure and fault paterns.…”

“…Geologically and seismically, it represents a layer cake model with compressive anticlinal inversion structures. This is one of the deepest (12 KMs at center) basins in SE Asia and is highly petroliferous and has already witnessed an extensive hydrocarbon exploration and production [15][16][17][18][19][20]. Keeping this context in view, this study has been carried out to device efficient and optimized techniques to understand the structural framework better.…”
