“…Nevertheless, considering the several possible sets of process variables, it is relatively difficult to find the best welding parameters to predict and reach appropriate weld bead characteristics. Based on what is suggested in the literature [5,10,26,31], to reach appropriate weld layer geometry, the value of reinforcement should be the maximum, while the values of penetration and dilution should be the minimum. …”

“…By means of this method, layers with different thicknesses and a strong metallurgical bond to the substrate can be produced. In addition, it has high productivity and ability to automation for weld overlay applications [1,5]. In addition, in the PTA method, the value of dilution can be kept at a minimum, and by adjusting the feeding rate a sound weld bead is achievable [3,6].…”

“…However, the properties and the quality of deposits are strongly dependent on the dilution of the substrate promoted by the PTA process. Low dilution provides coatings with similar chemical composition to the added metal powder, condition for achieving enhanced mechanical properties, wear and oxidation resistance [9]. To avoid adhesion problems and, therefore, not to compromise the performance of molds in service, it is common to increase the dilution through the change of the most relevant deposition parameters even if the mechanical properties, wear and oxidation resistance are diminished.…”
