Application of GIS tools in spatial distribution modeling of historical monuments

Abstract: Entry in the register of objects of cultural heritage (Polish: rejestr zabytków) is one of the statutory forms of legal protection of monuments in Poland. The registers of objects of cultural heritage are maintained by territorially competent voivodeship conservators of monuments. Voivodeship registers of objects of cultural heritage contain approx. 76,000 entries related to non-movable monuments that are differentiated by type. These objects can be cultural landscapes, urban and rural systems, construction un… Show more

“…Recognition of the monument as a Historic Monument is a special form of ennoblement of a historic object. According to the criteria set by the National Centre for Research and Documentation of Monuments (currently, The National Heritage Board of Poland), a non-movable monument of trans-regional importance, of high historical, scientific, and artistic values relevant to the Polish cultural heritage, consolidated in the social consciousness by being a source of inspiration for future generations, may be covered by this form of additional protection [30]. Currently, there are 114 such facilities in Poland.…”

“…Wiele prac przedstawia wykorzystanie systemów informacji geograficznej w badaniach dziedzictwa kulturowego. Spośród nich można wyodrębnić takie, które wykorzystują możliwości GIS do przechowywania, analizowania i wizualizacji danych dotyczących różnego rodzaju składników dziedzictwa kulturowego (Szajnowska-Wysocka, Tkocz 2008;Rząsa, Ciski, Ogryzek 2019), przedstawiają proces tworzenia bazy danych i związanych z nim problemów oraz zarządzanie dziedzictwem kulturowym za pomocą technologii GIS (Hosse, Schilcher 2003;Chias i in. 2006;Seker i in.…”

“…Istnieje niewiele prac podejmujących zagadnienie rozmieszczenia i lokalizacji tych zabytków w skali całej Polski.

“…The processing functions include transforming, analyzing, aggregating, and generalizing. GIS software allows spatial analysis using a variety of methods, the most popular include: overlay analysis, spatial interpolation, spatial data exploration, hot spot analysis, or kernel density estimation; this type of research finds application in a number of areas, e.g., bathymetry [29], spatial planning [30], location selection [31,32], environmental protection and disaster reduction capability [33][34][35][36][37], spatial and distribution patterns [38][39][40][41], demography [42], as well as many others. Using GIS software, the data can be visualized using many cartographic visualization methods, such as: cartogram, cartodiagram, range method, dot map, etc.…”
