Application of FTIR spectroscopy for structural characterization of ternary poly(acrylic acid)–metal–poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) complexes

Abstract: The FTIR spectroscopic technique was used in the study of ternary polymer-metal complexes containing two polyelectrolytes of opposite charge and metal ions. The structure of the ternary (PAA-Fe 3þ -PVP) complexes was examined by following the changes in their infrared spectra. It was found that the shapes of the absorption bands of the resultant compounds are influenced by the presence of Fe 3þ . According to this result it was suggested that two types of structure which differ in the composition are formed, o… Show more

“…All peaks attributed to PVP disappeared following IPL irradiation due to photodegradation and thermal degradation of PVP by the absorption of high-intensity light and the high temperature of the copper nanoparticles. 10,18 To investigate this copper oxide reduction mechanism, two mechanisms were proposed based on the existing literature as described below.…”

“…Weaker bands associated with scissoring and bending vibrations of ACH 2 A and CHACO groups appeared at 1446 cm À1 and 1407 cm À1 , respectively. The bands at 1231 and 1173 cm À1 were attributed to the coupling between in-plane OH bending and CAO stretching of neighboring carboxyl groups [33]. As expected, the presence of typical bands of PVA and PAA were also observed in the resultant PVA/PAA crosslinked composite nanofibers (Fig.…”

“…Figure 3 shows the FTIR spectra of the pure PAA powder and the as-prepared products, respectively. As shown in part a of Figure 3, a strong absorption band at 1720 cm -1 is assigned to the C=O stretching mode of free carboxylic acid groups (-COOH), while weaker bands centered at 1455 and 1415 cm -1 are associated with the scissor and bending vibrations of -CH 2 -and CH-CO groups, [18] respectively. FTIR spectra of the PAA-capped NaCeF 4 :Tb 3+ and NaCeF 4 :Tb 3+ /LaF 3 nanocrystals are shown in Figure 3 (b and c, respectively).…”
