Application of eco-friendly natural dye obtained from Spathodea campanulata on silk using combination of mordants

Abstract: Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to extract the eco-friendly natural dye obtained from the flower of Spathodea campanulata and apply on silk fabric using combination of mordants. The fastness properties of the flower of Spathodea campanulata dyed silk fabric have been studied using different combination (1:3, 1:1 and 3:1) of various mordants, such as myrobolan: nickel sulphate, myrobolan: aluminium sulphate, myrobolan: potassium dichromate, myrobolan: ferrous sulphate and myrobolan: stann… Show more

“…India is one of the 17 megadiverse countries having a rich biodiversity and wide range of natural products (Singh and Srivastava 2015). A sustainable linkage must be developed between cultivation, collection and use of the natural dye sources in our country which has a rich biodiversity and plenty of raw materials (Kumaresan et al 2011). Kashmir valley enriches with natural dye sources, which has to be explored.…”

“…Due to toxic and allergic reactions associated with synthetic dyes, ban has been imposed on their uses by Germany and other European countries. Hence there is renaissance in the use of natural dyes in the textile dyeing, for food, pharmaceutical and in cosmetics [3].…”
