Application of direct tracking method for measuring electrospun nanofiber diameter

Abstract: -In this paper, direct tracking method as an image analysis based technique for measuring electrospun nanofiber diameter has been presented and compared with distance transform method. Samples with known characteristics generated using a simulation scheme known as µ-randomness were employed to evaluate the accuracy of the method. Electrospun webs of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) were also used to verify the applicability of the method on real samples. Since direct tracking as well as distance transform require binar… Show more

“…The average diameter of nanofibers increases with increasing polymer concentration because of lower extension of the jet at higher concentration and viscosity. Based on SEM images, the average diameter of nanofibers produced from 13 wt% polymer solutions is about 323 ± 31 nm, which is about 100 nm less than the diameter of those fibers collected from 15 wt% polymer solution (Ziabari et al, 2009). This is probably due to the greater stretching resistance of the solution with increasing solid content (Ramakrishna et al, 2005).…”

“…A feszültség rákapcsolásával szálakra szakadt, ezek a gyűjtőfelülethez vonzódtak. Az elektromos erők több ezerszeres mértékben nyújtják meg a szálakat, amelyek így a textilszálaknál egy-két nagyságrenddel vé-konyabbak lesznek [11], emiatt a felület-tömeg arány nagy lesz. Végül az oldószer elpárolog, és a szálak megszilárdulnak.…”

“…Fiber uniformity is one of the Nano fiber properties which were investigated by Chhabra et al [19]. In study by Ziabari et al [20], direct tracking method to measure the Nano fiber diameter was used. Also, this study applied local thresholding method to threshold Nano fiber images.…”
