One of the most abundant man-made sources of low energy (few~MeVs) neutrinos, reactor neutrino, is not only useful for studying neutrino properties, but it is also used in practical applications. In this study, we investigate the potential of using reactor neutrino detectors for nuclear safeguards in Vietnam, specifically at the Dalat Nuclear Reactor, a future research facility, and presumably commercial reactors with 500~kW, 10~MW, and 1000~MW thermal powers, respectively. We compute the rate of observed inverted beta decay events, as well as the statistical significance of extracting isotope composition under the practical assumptions of detector mass, detection efficiency, and background level. We find that a 1-ton detector mass can allow us to detect the reactor's on-off transition state from a few hours to a few days, depending on the standoff distance and reactor thermal power. We investigate how background and energy resolution affect the precision of the extracted weapon-usable \(^{239}\)Pu isotope. We conclude that in order to distinguish the 10% variation of the \(^{239}\)Pu in the 10~MW thermal power reactor, a 1-ton detector placed 50~m away must achieve 1% background level. Increasing the statistics by using a 10x larger detector or placing it \(\sqrt{10}\) times closer to the reactor alleviates the requirement of the background level to 10%.

This paper investigates the performance of genetic algorithm (GA) with improved selection techniques, i.e. Tournament and Roulette Wheel, applied to in-core fuel management of the Dalat nuclear research reactor (DNRR). Numerical calculations have been performed based on the DNRR core with 100 HEU fuel bundles. The optimal fitness function was chosen to maximize the keff and minimize the power peaking factor. The statistical analysis using Mann-Whitney test shows that the performance of GA with Tournament selection is advantageous over the Roulette Wheel selection in the ICFM problem of the DNRR. The optimal core configurations obtained with the improved GA methods have the keff values greater by about 500 pcm, and the PPF lower by about 4.0% compared to the reference core.

In optimizing the production of a metal mine, either the overall dynamic relations between technical indicators or the spatial distribution of the ore grade are usually considered, but few studies have considered both factors together. These two factors in combination have a greater effect on the optimization of mine production in terms of economic benefit and resource utilization than they do individually. We proposed an overall dynamic optimization model of technical indicators of metal mine production that considers the spatial distribution of the ore grade to better optimize the technical indicators and improve sustainable development of mineral resources. We incorporated an adaptive mutation strategy and adaptive control parameters into a differential evolution algorithm (AADE) in order to overcome the drawbacks of the differential evolution algorithm in solving this optimization model. The adaptive mutation strategy and adaptive control parameters were used to increase the rate of convergence and improve the search for a global maximum. To assess the performance of AADE, we used a real case and four test functions (the Sphere, Griewank, Rastrigin and Rosenbrock functions) in tests that compared AADE with a standard genetic algorithm, a standard differential evolution algorithm and the recently developed adaptive differential evolution algorithm. The results indicate that the optimization model we created is better aligned with mine production processes than current optimization models. In optimizing the technical indicators of metal mine production to maximize economic benefits, AADE performed significantly better than the other three algorithms tested in terms of convergence rate and global search ability.
