Rice (Oryza sativa L.) feeds to two-third of the global population by serving as staple food. It is the main export commodity of several countries; thus, contributes towards foreign exchange earnings. Unfortunately, average global rice yield is far below than its genetic potential. Low nitrogen (N) use efficiency (NUE) is among the major reasons for low average yield. Current study evaluated the impact of nitrogen fertilizer application methods (conventional and deep placement) on growth, yield-related traits, chlorophyll contents, photosynthesis rate, agronomic N-use efficiency (ANUE), partial factors productivity of applied N (PFP) and economic returns of two different transplanted rice varieties (Basmati-515 and Super-Basmati). Fertilizer application methods significantly affected allometry, yield-related traits, chlorophyll contents, photosynthesis rate, ANUE, PFP and economic returns. Deep placement of N-fertilizer (DPNF) observed better allometric traits, high chlorophyll contents, photosynthesis rate, ANUE, PFP, yield attributes and economic returns compared to conventional application of N-fertilizer (CANF). Similarly, Basmati-515 had better allometric and yield-related traits, chlorophyll contents, photosynthesis rate, ANUE, PFP and economic returns than Super-Basmati. Regarding interactions among N-fertilizer application methods and rice varieties, Basmati-515 with DPNF resulted in higher chlorophyll contents, photosynthesis rate, ANUE, PFP, allometric and yield related traits and economic returns than CANF. The lowest values of these traits were observed for Super-Basmati with no application of N-fertilizer. Both varieties had better yield and economic returns with DPNF compared to CANF. It is concluded that DPNF improved yield, ANUE and economic returns; therefore, should be opted to improve productivity of transplanted fine rice. Nonetheless, lower nitrogen doses need to be tested for DPNF to infer whether it could lower N use in rice crop.

Outsourcing the hazardous materials (HazMat) transportation is an effective way for manufacturing enterprises to avoid risks and accidents as well as to retain sustainable development in economic growth and social inclusion while not bringing negative impacts on the public and the environment. It is imperative to develop viable and effective approaches to selecting the most appropriate HazMat transportation alternatives. This paper aims at proposing an integrated multi-criteria group decision making approach that combines proportional hesitant fuzzy linguistic term set (PHFLTS) and the Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) to address the problem of HazMat transportation alternative evaluation and selection. PHFLTSs are adopted to represent the congregated individual evaluations in a bid to avoid information loss and increase the reliability of results. Two weight assignment models are then proposed to determine the comprehensive weights of experts and criteria. Furthermore, several novel manipulations of PHFLTS are also defined to enrich its applicability. The TOPSIS method is subsequently extended to the context of PHFLTSs to rank alternatives and choose the best one. Eventually, the feasibility and validity of the proposed approach are verified by a practical case study of a HazMat transportation alternative evaluation and selection decision and further comparison analyses.

The main innovation of the study is the use of a novel energo-environmental approach for investigation of biogas production, and analysis of the amount of methane and biogas produced in terms of energy production and global warming potential (GWP). Two types of reactors (laboratory-scale and semi-industrial reactors) were prepared for biogas production to perform a detailed study and for exact consideration of treatments in terms of production. Based on the results, the maximum methane production in the laboratory-scale set-up was related to a carbon/nitrogen (C/N) ratio of 30 at mesophilic temperature (35,967 ml/kg volatile solids). Accordingly, the C/N ratio in the semiindustrial reactor was considered to be 30; methane production was equal to 14/489m3 at loading rates of 237.5, 2.580 and 234.92 kg for cow manure, wheat straw and water content, respectively. The maximum biogas production occurred on day 65, from the viewpoint of energetic analysis. The highest daily net electricity production occurred on day 12, with a positive energy balance. However, considering GWP effects in the production and use of biogas, it would be better to stop production on day 48, in which case methane production would be equal to 77% of the final limit of biogas production.
