Application of Analytical Hierarchy Process for Structural Health Monitoring and Prioritizing Concrete Bridges in Iran

Abstract: This paper proposes a method for monitoring the structural health of concrete bridges in Iran. In this method, the bridge condition index (BCI) of bridges is determined by the analytical hierarchy process (AHP). BCI constitutes eight indices that are scored based on the experts’ views, including structural, hydrology and climate, safety, load impact, geotechnical and seismicity, strategic importance, facilities, and traffic and pavement. Experts’ views were analyzed by Expert Choice software, and the relative … Show more

“…Additionally, the squared correlation coefficient ( ) between the estimated and experimental datasets, as well as the correlation coefficient ( ) between the experimental and estimated values, must approach one [ 66 , 67 , 68 ]. As seen in Table 6 , the suggested MEP model meets nearly all the stated requirements, which is consistent with the findings of existing literature and recommendations [ 69 , 70 , 71 , 72 ].…”

“…Environmental sustainability includes advanced innovations to monitor and minimize CO 2 emissions and energy usage and replace cement with supplementary cementitious materials, namely Pozzolans [1]. Diatomaceous earth [2], silica fume [3], volcanic ash [4], bottom ash, and husk/fly ash [5][6][7] are used in traditional pozzolans. Furthermore, several nanoparticles (NPs), for instance, carbon nanotubes [8], nano metakaolin [7,[9][10][11], nanosilica (NS) [7,[11][12][13][14][15][16], nano-Al 2 O 3 [17,18], nano-TiO 2 [19,20], nano-CuO [21], and nano-Fe 2 O 3 [22,23], have also recently been investigated with rapid improvements in nanomaterial technology.…”

“…To overcome this complexity multi-criteria analysis (MCA) approaches are presented [54][55][56]. The two types of this approach that were invented by Thomas L. Saaty are the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and analytic network process (ANP) techniques which are applied in many fields, e.g., engineering, the energy industry, environmental management and agriculture [47,[57][58][59][60]. These methods have benefits compared to other multi-criteria decisions (MCDs), e.g., comprising numerous qualitative and quantitative factors, flexibility and simplicity of the tool, calculating the importance of each criterion, estimation and control of the internal consistency [61,62].…”
