Application of AHP, Fuzzy AHP and PROMETHEE Method in Solving Additive Manufacturing Process Selection Problem

Abstract: Additive manufacturing is a technology of making a three-dimesional solid object of any shape from a digital model. Today on the global market exist various additive manufacturing processes. All of these processes build parts by applying material layer by layer. In a wide range of different processes there is a problem of selecting an adequate process for a user or company interested in additive manufacturing technology. Solving of such a problem is possible by using multicriteria decision methods which result… Show more

“…Various criteria were considered in the study such as layer thickness, resolution, roughness, minimum feature size, speed, aspect ratio, strength, material compatibility, cost and geometrical complexity. Similarly, Peko et al (2018) used AHP, fuzzy AHP and preference ranking organisation method (PROMETHEE) techniques for ranking photopolymer jetting, FDM, SLS and 3D printing and found photopolymer jetting as the best alternative. Zaman et al (2018) studied integrated product-process design (IPPD) for selection of appropriate material, method and machine for the AM process using AHP and simple additive weighting (SAW).…”

“…The AHP helps decision-makers to organise the critical aspects of a problem into a hierarchical structure similar to a family tree; it connects all the levels of the hierarchy, which helps to clarify how changing one criterion might affect other alternatives and criteria; and it starts with pairwise comparison matrices and is based on experts' judgements [21][22][23].…”

“…Fuzzy AHP was used to calculate the weights of each selected criterion while the PROMETHEE method was used for ranking the tasks. Peko et al [6] showed the conduction of three different methods (AHP, Fuzzy AHP and PROMETHEE) to choose an appropriate additive manufacturing process. By comparing the results of each method, it is apparent that all methods gave the same rank of observed alternatives.…”
