Application of a novel electrosynthesized polydopamine-imprinted film to the capacitive sensing of nicotine

Abstract: The application of novel electrosynthesized polydopamine (PDA)-imprinted film as a recognition element for the capacitive sensing of nicotine is reported. The PDA-imprinted film was electropolymerized directly on the gold electrode surface in the presence of nicotine without an additional self-assembled thiol sublayer. The compact PDA film has various functional groups that aid the imprinting procedure. Furthermore, the film shows good capacitive response since it is insulating in nature and ultrathin. The sen… Show more

“…Very interesting was the finding that preoxidized dopamine, due to the presence of potassium ferricyanide in solution, allowed for more efficient immobilization of the enzyme [105]. Nicotine was also imprinted in polydopamine films deposited by electropolymerization in order to produce capacitive sensors specific for nicotine [106].…”

“…5 PDA-based materials were biomedically applied to biosensing, bioimaging, drug delivery, tissue engineering, theranostics, and cancer photothermal treatment. [6][7][8][9][10][11][12] Many materials such as carbon nanotubes, graphene oxide (GO) sheets, gold nanorods, and conjugated polymeric nanomaterials all exhibit considerable photothermal conversion effects. [13][14][15][16][17] However, carbon nanotubes and GO sheets have low degradability in vivo, whereas gold nanorods face the drawbacks of toxicity and high cost.…”

“…They are very useful materials for isolation and preconcentration of low concentration analytes employing the solid phase extraction (SPE) technique [14][15][16]. Although many papers have been published concerning utilization of MIPs in pharmaceutical science [17][18][19], only a few were devoted to dopamine isolation [20][21][22][23][24]. Recently, two scientific groups have published their results of the evaluation of dopamine imprinted polymers prepared using synthetic methods based on covalent [22] and non-covalent [23] approaches.…”
