Aims: This research aimed to evaluate the action of ozonized oil associated with an obliterating desensitizing agent in reducing post-dental bleaching sensitivity. Study Design: This was a randomized, prospective, double-blind, split-mouth study, in which the patient and evaluator were blinded to the distribution of the groups. Place and Duration of Study: The study was conducted at the Dentistry Clinics of the Local University from June to December 2021. Methodology: Forty patients were selected and divided into two groups according to the desensitizing agent used: control group (GC) - potassium nitrate and sodium fluoride and treatment group (GT) - sunflower oil ozonized and glutaraldehyde. In-office bleaching was performed with 35% hydrogen peroxide in a single clinical session. The following variables were evaluated: I – the intensity of sensitivity at different times in the same group; II – the intensity of sensitivity at different times in different groups; III- global sensitivity; IV - worse pain and V - color change, which was evaluated at the beginning of treatment and one week after the end of the treatment with the help of a VITA color scale. The risk analysis of tooth sensitivity of both groups was compared using McNemar's exact test. To analyze the intensity of tooth sensitivity, the Wilcoxon and Friedman tests were used, P < 0,05. Results: The study revealed that there were significant differences in the risk and degree of tooth sensitivity between the test and control groups. Out of the total participants, 14 did not experience sensitivity, while 66 did. The test group exhibited lower pain scores at 35 and 40 minutes compared to the control group. In the intragroup analysis, significant differences were found within both the test and control groups across multiple time intervals. The analysis of global sensitivity showed significant differences between the treatment approaches, with the group receiving the specific treatment demonstrating lower sensitivity values compared to the control group. However, there were no significant differences in the worst pain between the treatment approaches. Regarding bleaching effectiveness, there were no statistically significant differences between the test and control groups. The comparison did not show a significant variation in bleaching effectiveness. Conclusion: The protocol showed promising results as a less invasive and discomfort-free method. However, the study was limited to using only one bleaching agent, and further research with different bleaching agents could provide additional insights.

Ozone is a colorless gas with a characteristic odor present in nature in the form of trivalent oxygen. In 2015, the Federal Council of Dentistry (CFO/Brazil) approved the use of ozone therapy and in 2018 the Ministry of Health (MS/Brazil) approved the application of Ozone Therapy as a Complementary Integrative Practice in the Unified Health System. Therefore, the objective of this study was to verify the applicability of ozone therapy in dental practice. This is an integrative literature review whose search was performed in the Medline/Pubmed, LILACS, SciElo, and Google Scholar databases. Studies published in the last 5 years in English, Portuguese or Spanish were eligible. After the search, 312 titles were found and after exclusion of duplicates and analysis of abstracts and full text, 13 articles were included in this review. The literature reports the application of ozone therapy in several areas in the treatment of acute and chronic diseases. As a mechanism of action, ozone has a direct antimicrobial effect, immunoregulation, antioxidant defenses, analgesic, and vasodilator effects. In dentistry, its applicability is mainly in preventive dentistry and as a complement in surgical procedures, endodontic, and periodontal treatments.

Esta investigação visa realizar uma revisão integrativa da literatura sobre o uso da ozonioterapia no contexto do emagrecimento, analisando sua eficácia, mecanismos de ação e segurança. Utilizando uma metodologia rigorosa, a revisão se concentrou na formulação de uma pergunta norteadora para orientar a busca em bases de dados eletrônicas como Literatura Latino-Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde (LILACS), Scientific Eletronic Library Online (SciELO), PubMed e Google Acadêmico. Inicialmente, foram identificadas 421 publicações potencialmente relevantes. Após uma triagem criteriosa baseada em títulos e resumos, 39 trabalhos foram pré-selecionados. Destes, 11 foram excluídos por não atenderem ao limite temporal estabelecido para o estudo. A análise subsequente dos critérios de inclusão resultou na seleção final de 5 estudos pertinentes para esta investigação. Os resultados da revisão destacam que a ozonioterapia, especialmente seu efeito lipolítico – a capacidade de desintegrar células de gordura –, desempenha um papel crucial no emagrecimento. Este mecanismo não só contribui para a redução de adiposidades, mas também influencia positivamente o metabolismo geral. Além disso, a versatilidade da ozonioterapia em diversas condições clínicas foi evidenciada, refletindo sua aplicabilidade como uma modalidade de tratamento abrangente. Conclui-se que a ozonioterapia emerge como uma opção promissora no tratamento do emagrecimento, dada a sua capacidade de influenciar fatores cruciais como a lipólise e o metabolismo. Esta revisão integrativa lança luz sobre o potencial terapêutico da ozonioterapia no contexto do emagrecimento, sugerindo um campo fértil para futuras pesquisas e aplicações clínicas.
