Apical periodontitis induced by selected bacterial strains in root canals of immunized and nonimmunized monkeys

Abstract: – Experimental infections in root canals with Streptococcus faecalisss. liqiuefaciens (Strep‐MG4), Actinomyces bovis (Act‐MO6) and Bacteroides oraiis (Bact‐MC3) were studied in four immunized and five nonimmiLtnized monkeys. The immunization was performed using1 antigens of the homologous strains. The antibody level was checked by gel diffusion. In 56 root canals of the immunized animals and 60 root canals of the nonimmunized animals, viable cells of the three bacterial strains were enclosed in equal amounts … Show more

“…Bacteria cause periodontal disease as well as apical periodontitis (2023), but other factors may determine the severity of the disease and how a specific patient responds to therapy or pathogenic bacteria (24). Bacteria are still required to initiate the patient’s inflammatory response, but other factors can modulate or amplify that inflammatory response to change the clinical presentation and the progression of disease (2528).…”

“…[1][2][3][4] Infections within the root canal system of a tooth cause periapical inflammatory responses which usually manifest as periapical radiolucencies and occasionally as radiopacities on radiographs. 2,4 Bacteria also play a major role in the *School of Dentistry, The University of Western Australia.…”
