A research was conducted to study the ethnomedicinal importance of some plants used as spices by the indigenous people of selected markets in the area. A self collection. The result obtained revealed the presence of fourteen different plant species representing nine families used as spices. These spices were found to be very effective against several clinical symptoms such as rheumatism, pneumonia, stomachache, fever, pile and ulcerative colitis among others. They also served as hypolipidemic, antithrombotic, anti hypertensive, anti-hyperglycemic, antihypercholesterolemic and immuno as anticancer agents. Garlic, clove, ginger, nutmeg and chilli pepper are the most predominant spices used in the area with relative frequent use of 25%, 24%, 21%, 15% and 9% respectively. The research also discovered their methods of preparation to vary from one location to another within the area. Jaiphal is a common fruit of Myristica fragrans Houtt. plant used as spices as well as for medicinal purpose in Unani System of Medicine since antiquity. The Saydalaneh (pharmacist) in Arab introduce a large number of new drugs to clinical use including nutmeg. As a Unani concept of temperament, it is hot and dry. It is very common and popular drug used as digestive, carminative, appetizer, exhilarant and mood elevator, antitussive, antiemetic, demulcent, aphrodisiac, stomachic, liver, nervine, cardio, and uterine tonic in Unani System of Medicine. Extensive information is provided in Unani text by Greek physicians about this drug so it is used in many compound formulations and useful recipes. These importance and benefits lead to further review to explore its medicinal importance. Review reveals digestive, appetizer, exhilarant and mood elevator, antitussive, antiemetic, nervine tonic, aphrodisiac, antidiarrheal, liver tonic, cardiotonic, and uterine tonic. Recent researchers indicate antimicrobial, hypolipidemic, antioxidant, anticancer, sedative, analgesic, and anti-inflammatory activity. Further, scope of research can also be explored with the help of traditional knowledge exist in Unani and other traditional medicine.

Male sexual dysfunctions manifested by disorders of sexual desire (hypoactive and hyperactive), disorders of erection (erectile dysfunction), disorders of ejaculation (premature, absent/delayed and painful ejaculation, disorders of orgasm, and failure of detumescence). Conventional medicine is the knowledge, skills, and practice of holistic health care and recognized and accepted for its role in the maintenance of health and the treatment of diseases. It is based on indigenous theories, beliefs, and experiences that are handed down from generation to generation. Conventional medicine is practiced in many countries; it has always been part of the cultural and religious life of Indian people. Herbal treatments are the most popular forms of traditional medicine and are highly lucrative in the international marketplace. Today, more than 80% population of the developing countries depends on plants for their medical needs. Therefore, the increasing search for medicinal plants used in the treatment and management of male sexual dysfunction has necessitated. There are many herbal drugs that have been used for the treatment and management of male sexual dysfunction with varying degrees of success such as Tribulus terrestris, Withania somnifera, Eurycoma longifolia, Ginkgo biloba, and Myristica fragrans. Based on historical experience in traditional system of medicines, herbal medicinal plants are recommended for the treatment and management of male sexual dysfunction, and few of them have been scientifically validated. Recently, preclinical screening models including use of small animals such as rats and mice have been developed for better assessment of the pharmacological potential of medicinal plants against male sexual dysfunction. The present article has summarized the preclinical screening parameters with their significance including mating performance analysis, changes in reproductive organs index, reproductive hormonal estimations, sperm analysis, and histoarchitecture investigations.
