Apathy and Reduced Speed of Processing Underlie Decline in Verbal Fluency following DBS

Abstract: Objective. Reduced verbal fluency is a strikingly uniform finding following deep brain stimulation (DBS) for Parkinson's disease (PD). Some previous studies examining the surgical effect of STN-DBS on VF have suggested that the postsurgical decline in VF results from “an intact lexicon running slowly” [18] or a slower speed of processing [19].
