Antipodal Vivaldi Antenna Arrays Fed by Substrate Integrated Waveguide Right-Angled Power Dividers

Abstract: This paper describes a novel feed system for compact antipodal Vivaldi antenna arrays on a single layer of substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) by using SIW H-plane right-angled power dividers. The proposed antenna systems are composed of a Vivaldi array and an H-plane right-angled corner power divider which includes an over-moded waveguide section. Based on the number of antennas in the Vivaldi array, mode converter sections at K-band and Ka-band frequencies are designed, fabricated, and measured when feeding… Show more

“…Jing-Ya Deng et al [18] use vertical SIW lines along their antenna to improve bandwidth, but the gain that is from 2.15dB to 5.75dBi is not quite good in the millimeter-wave band. Sara Salem Hesariand Jens Bornemann [19] and Amruta Sarvajeet Dixit et al [20] achieve high gain at the millimeter-wave band, but both designs use array structure with 1x3 and 1x4 elements, respectively. In addition, all the above designs use Roger substrate RT5880 or RT6002 with a very low loss tangent to get high radiation efficiency.…”

“…The finalization of the dimension and position of the slots is a challenging task [16]. Additionally, the AVA can be made compact by incorporating corrugations [17,18]. The corrugations are of a triangular, sinusoidal, rectangular, or square shape.…”

“…The latter type is also worthy of studying, which is indispensable components as push‐pull amplifiers, 2 antennas, 3‐5 and mixers 6 in the modern communication circuit design. Therefore, greater efforts have been taken into achieving the out‐of‐phase feature such as double‐sided parallel strip lines (DSPSLs), 7 modified Gysel PDs (GPDS), 8 multilayer substrate integrated waveguide (SIW), 9 asymmetrical coplanar strip lines (ACPSs) 10 and microstrip‐to‐slotline transitions 11 …”
