“…This is consistent with the previous studies that glutathione depletion limited the ability to detoxify or prevent oxidative damage in organisms [51]. GST belongs to the family of multifunctional proteins, which plays a key role in the detoxification of organisms under the stress of harmful xenobiotic and endobiotic compounds [50]. In this study, the activity of GST was upregulated significantly from 48 h until the end of the experiment in hepatopancreas, while was only upregulated significantly at 72 h in gills.…”

“…GSH is the most abundant intracellular low molecular weight antioxidant in the antioxidant system. GSH can directly scavenge singlet oxygen and hydroxyl radicals to intact cells under oxidative stress, and is used as a cofactor for the biotransformation enzymes GST and the antioxidative enzyme GPx [49,50]. In our study, the GSH increased much more in gills than that in hepatopancreas, which may be because the consumption of GSH as a substrate is almost the same as that induced by oxidative stress in hepatopancreas.…”

“…Thus, it is important to investigate the coactions of these variables, which may result in multifactorial responses [ 52 , 53 , 54 , 55 , 56 ]. While studies about the effect of individual environmental change stressors on aquatic organisms have been widely reported, such as temperature [ 39 ], acidification [ 57 ] and salinity [ 58 ], research assessing their combined impacts have rarely been studied. Herein, the environmental changes regarding seawater surface temperature (SST) and toxic algal abundance (TAA) were investigated to better understand the separated or combined effect on mussels during the uptake and elimination period.…”
