Antioxidant Potential of Plumieride against CCl4-Induced Peroxidative Damage in Rats

Abstract: In search of a new potent as an antioxidant from natural sources, plumieride—an iridoid isolated from the methanol extract of the bark of Plumeria bicolor (family Apocynaceae) was evaluated for its antioxidant potential against CCl4-induced peroxidative damage in liver of rats. The antioxidant potential was evaluated by using hepatic tissue for SOD (superoxide dismutase), CAT (catalase), GSH (reduced glutathione), GPx (glutathione peroxidase), GR (glutathione reductase) and LPO (lipid peroxidation) alongwith t… Show more

“…The structures of plumieride compounds isolated from subfraction FHDHA3 of latex from H. drasticus were characterized by HRMS, 1 H and 13 C NMR data, and comparison with literature data, see Table . Plumieride compound showed the molecular formula of C 21 H 26 O 12 based on the HRESIMS (positive-ion mode) m / z 471.1505 [M + H] + (calcd for C 21 H 27 O 12 , 471.1503).…”

“…In plasma, all doses of PLU increased NPSH production (p<0.01; p<0.0001). The anti-inflammatory and antinociceptive effects triggered by PLU could be related to the ability of the iridoid in performing functions in various tissues (BOEING et al, 2018;PANDYA et al, 2013;SINGH et al, 2014;SINGH et al, 2017).…”

“…Plumieride (PLU), a characteristic representative of iridoids, is a molecule isolated from Allamanda cathartica flowers and plants of genus Plumeria and Plantago. The antinociceptive, anti-inflammatory, hepatoprotective, and immunostimulatory effects are already attributed to PLU (BOEING et al, 2018;SINGH et al, 2014;SINGH et al, 2017). Also, plumieride did not interfere with the locomotor capacity of mice after acute administration and did not exert anticonvulsant effect (DALMAGRO et al, 2019).…”

“…[ 2 10 21 23 36 38 41 ] This kind of spirolactone iridoid is not commonly found in nature. Some studies revealed that plumieride exhibits antimicrobial[ 61 ] and antioxidant effects,[ 62 ] arrests spermatogenesis in male rats without noticeable side effects, and presents cytotoxicity. [ 3 ]…”
