Antioxidant and antidiabetic activities of vanadium‐binding protein and trifuhalol A

Abstract: Diabetes mellitus has become a major global health problem due to increasing morbidity among all age groups. It has been reported that the number of patients with diabetes was more than 450 million in 2017, and would reach to 693 million on 2045 (Makinde et al., 2019). Diabetes mellitus is considered as a chronic and systemic metabolic disease which is associated with insulin deficiency (type 1) and insulin resistance or insulin insensitiveness (type 2) (Chausmer, 1998; De Liefde et al., 2005). The high blood … Show more

“…α-Glucosidase, which is present in the villi of the small intestine and is involved in the food http://dx.doi.org/10.48022/mbl.2109.09009 digestion, can degrade oligosaccharides to monosaccharides. Therefore, inhibition of this enzyme activity delays carbohydrate hydrolysis and absorption, and then suppressed increase in blood sugar level [29]. Such hypoglycemia can be controlled by suppressing αglucosidase activity using various therapeutic food materials.…”

“…In 2018, the authors reported a novel method of phlorotannin extraction from AC and profiled the existence of trifuhalol A within the AC extract [14]. Since then, a number of reports have indicated the antioxidative and antidiabetic activities [15] and tyrosinase-inhibitory activity [16] of trifuhalol A. In addition, authors have recently reported the anti-inflammatory activity of trifuhalol A against LPS-stimulation and atopic dermatitis [17,18].…”
