Walnut green husk is one of the main waste products from walnut and could be used as a source of natural dyeing compounds such as juglone. The present study was conducted to evaluate the effective use of walnut green husk extract as a natural hair dye. Dyeing properties, fastness and antimicrobial behaviours of dyed hair and also a skin irritation test for natural hair dye on rat skin were examined. When the extract was mixed with ascorbic acid as a developer, ferrous sulphate as a mordant, and Aloe vera extract used as a secondary mordant and also a cosmetic ingredient, the reaction resulted in a dark-brown colour on hair samples. The dyed hair exhibited appropriate colour strength having excellent morphology for a hair surface coated with dye molecules. In addition, the dyed hair possessed good resistance to washing and daylight fastness, without any irritant properties as shown in a rat model, although high concentrations of iron-based mordant may be problematic for long-term usage. This paper also suggests the use of natural mordants such as lactic and oxalic acids to avoid any probable risks. Walnut green husk extract was an appropriate natural hair dyeing agent in practice and showed maximum antimicrobial activity compared with semi-synthetic and commercial hair dyes. The results demonstrated that walnut green husk can be used as an economical, valuable, eco-friendly and safe source of dyeing and antimicrobial agents for cosmetic products. Tengkawang fruit can be processed into a form of high economic value fat. This is due to its properties which are similar to cocoa butter so it is widely used as Cocoa Butter Substitutes (CBS) on various cocoa fat products, one of which is lipstick. Manufacturing and analysis of the performance of tengkawang fat-based lipstick has been done. However, to ensure a cosmetic product is safe to use, it is necessary to use safety and irritation tests. This study aims to analyze the safety level of the tengkawang fat-based lipstick through an organoleptic test, microbial contamination, and simple irritation test. There are four lipstick formulations used in this activity, the two best formulations (m3 and m5) from the previous year's research, two modification formulas of the previous formula (m3i and m5i) and commercial lipstick as a comparison (control). Organoleptic tests will be carried out on four types of lipstick formulas which include texture, gloss, odor, color and spreadability of the lipstick. This test uses a scoring system. panelists for the organoleptic test were 34 people with an age range of 17-45 years. Another analysis is the microbial contamination and simple irritation tests following the procedures of the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) 16-4769-1998 concerning lipstick. The microbial contamination test was carried out in two stages, the first for fresh lipstick (finished production) and the second for lipstick that had been stored for four months. A simple irritation test analysis was carried out by applying lipstick to the mice's skin. The results showed that from an organoleptic point of view, the lipstick with the formula m5 was the most preferred by the panelists. In terms of safety for use, the microbial contamination test showed no presence of microbes in the lipstick preparation. A simple irritation test showed no signs of irritation after 24, 36, 48, and 136 hours of observation, which indicated that the lipstick made from tengkawang fat was safe to use.

The demand for healthy, viable, and safer products are an ever‐increasing trend in the global market. The usage of flowers as food, traditional cuisine, or alternative medicine is very common in various regions of the world because of their significant nutritional profile and therapeutic potential as demonstrated by various studies. In this context, the marketing segment of these edible flowers in the form of food is increasing owing to their beneficial impact on human health. The presence of the various bioactive compounds in edible flowers has attracted major industries like food and pharmaceutical companies for the development of functional foods and medicine. There is a dire need to explore the concealed aspects of edible flowers on a commercial level to get economic and health benefits. The present review deals with the availability of various edible flowers like heartsease, common daisy, marigold, evening primrose, boraginaceae, and so forth and elucidate their phytochemical screening, nutritional, bioactive, medicinal, and chemical features along with their consumptional behavior. Practical applications The increased research on the bioactive and nutritive value of edible flowers has proved that they can be consumed as a whole or as processed products. Since edible flowers have antioxidants, fiber, and even some proteins, they can be used in several medicines and therapeutic meal plans. The perfect combination of color and aroma makes edible flowers a specifically desired addition to a variety of dishes, beverages, syrups, and herb mixtures. Edible flowers have great anti‐obesity potential that can be used in the development of different weight loss supplements and herbal remedies. Different types of nutraceuticals and functional foods can be developed by using the bioactive potential of edible flowers to meet the nutritional needs of individuals. This can be an emerging business as far as food processing and marketing is concerned.
