Antimony trichloride 1:1 complexes with terephthaldehyde and p-diacetylbenzene

Abstract

The crystal and molecular structures of 1 : 1 adducts of SbC1 a with organic carbonyl compounds were determined by X-ray diffraction. The terephthaldehyde adduct (CsH602SbC13) crystallized in space group Pnma with Z = 4 and lattice constants a = 8-433 (1), b = 21.556 (2), and c = 6.279 (1) A. The Sb atom is strongly coordinated to two carbonyl O atoms, and weakly coordinated to a C1, in a distorted pentagonal bipyramidal configuration. The p-diacetylbenzene adduct (C~0H~002SbC13) crystallized in space group Pbca with Z = 8 and lattice constants a = 17.689 (2), b = 17.639 (2), and c = 8.996 (2) A. In this structure there are two kinds of p-diacetylbenzene molecules, of which one has coplanar acetyl groups and one has acetyl groups non-coplanar by 9-9 °. The Sb atom is strongly coordinated to two carbonyl O atoms and to a CI in a distorted octahedral configuration.
