Finding effective strategies to design efficient photocatalysts and decompose refractory organic compounds in wastewater is a challenging problem. Herein, by coupling element doping and constructing heterostructures, S‐scheme CdS QDs/La‐Bi2WO6 (CS/LBWO) photocatalysts are designed and synthesized by a simple hydrothermal method. As a result, the RhB degradation efficiency of the optimized 5% CS/LBWO reached 99% within 70 min of illumination with excellent stability and recyclability. CS/LBWO shows improvement in the adsorption range of visible light and promotes electron–hole pair generation/migration/separation, attributing the superior degradation performance. The degradation RhB mechanism is proposed by a free radical capture experiment, electron paramagnetic resonance, and high‐performance liquid chromatography‐mass spectrometry results, indicating that h+ and •O2– play a significant role during four degradation processes: de‐ethylation, chromophore cleavage, ring opening, and mineralization. Based on in situ irradiated X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Mulliken electronegativity theory, and the work function results, the S‐scheme heterojunction of CS/LBWO promotes the transfer of photogenerated electron–hole pairs and promotes the generation of reactive radicals. This work not only reports that 5% CS/LBWO is a promising photocatalyst for degradation experiments but also provides an approach to design advanced photocatalysts by coupling element doping and constructing heterostructures.

Most dye stuffs and coloring materials are mainly categorized as hazardous pollutants in water effluents due to their nature as non-biodegradable, highly toxic and extremely carcinogenic. For this reason, rapid and efficient eradication of waste dyes from wastewaters before discharging into water streams must be accomplished by an acceptable approach as adsorption technique. Therefore, the present study is aimed and devoted to synthesize a novel nanobiosorbent from three different constituents, gelatin (Gel) as a sustainable natural product, graphene oxide (GO) as an example of highly stable carbonaceous material and zirconium silicate (ZrSiO4) as an example of combined metal oxides for the formation of Gel@GO-F-ZrSiO4@Gel by using formaldehyde (F) as a cross-linkage reagent. Several characterization techniques as FT-IR were employed to identify the incorporated surface reactive Functionalities in Gel@GO-F-ZrSiO4@Gel as –OH, =NH, –NH2, –COOH and C=O, etc. The morphology for particle shape and size of Gel@GO-F-ZrSiO4@Gel were confirmed from the SEM and TEM analyses providing 15.75- 32.79 nm. The surface area was determined by the BET and found to correspond to 219.46 m2 g-1. Biosorptive removal of basic fuchsin (BF) pollutant as an example of a widely applicable dye in various activities was monitored and optimized under the influence of pH (2–10), reaction time (1–30 min), initial BF pollutant concentration (5–100 mg L−1), nanobiosorbent dosage (5–60 mg), temperature (30–60 °C) and interfering ions. The maximum biosorptive removal values of BF dye were established as 96.0 and 95.2% using 5 and 10 mg L−1, respectively at the recommended pH 7 condition. The Thermodynamic parameters demonstrated that the BF dye adsorption onto Gel@GO-F-ZrSiO4@Gel was taken place via spontaneous and endothermic reaction. Chemisorption is the predominant adsorption mechanism by forming multilayers upon nonhomogeneous surface in accordance with Freundlich model hypothesis. The applicability of the optimized Gel@GO-F-ZrSiO4@Gel in biosorptive removal of BF pollutant from real water sample was successfully accomplished by the batch technique. Thus, this study clearly shows that Gel@GO-F-ZrSiO4@Gel exhibited significant influences on remediation of industrial effluents containing BF pollutant with superior efficiency.

The co-contamination of aquatic systems with antimony (Sb) and humic acid (HA) is a global concern due to their potential risks to human health and environment. In this research, three-level-three-variable Box–Behnken design (BBD) was investigated for simultaneous Sb(III) and total organic carbon (TOC) removal responses from groundwater by use of ferric chloride (FC) as a coagulant. This study focuses on three operating variables, including initial Sb(III) concentration (100, 550, and 1000 μg/L), HA concentration (2, 6, and 10 mgC/L) and FC dosages (20, 60, and 100 mg/L). The proposed quadratic model presented good correlation with experimental values having R2 and adjusted R2 values of response variables (Sb(III): 0.9981 and 0.9956) and (TOC: 0.9935 and 0.9851), respectively. The most pronounced influence of FC dosage was observed in the removal responses of TOC and Sb(III). Interestingly, the model revealed that a high level of FC dosage had the same TOC removal potential regardless of increasing HA concentration. The statistical model for both Sb(III) and TOC responses was used to optimize the experimental conditions. Moreover, the experimental results were successfully validated with predicted values having high accuracy. The sludge volume produced for studied variables followed the decreasing order as FC dosage > HA concentration > Sb(III) concentration. Under optimum conditions, 0.45 mL/L sludge volume was produced in the treatment of ground water in Nawabshah. In general, the results of the current study may provide some insights into the predictability of simultaneous removal performance of Sb species and organic substances from groundwater.
