Antimicrobial susceptibilities of various Arcobacter species

Abstract: On 6 September 2009 (GMT 21:49) a moderate Mw5.4 earthquake sequence burst at the eastern border of Albania with the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM). Th e main shock was located ~6 km north of the epicentre of the 30 November 1967 Mw6.2 Dibra (or Debar) earthquake, which caused loss of life and considerable damage to buildings. We use broad band waveforms recorded by the Hellenic Unifi ed Seismic Network (HUSN), which receives real-time waveforms from the neighbouring networks, to compute focal m… Show more

“…Nevertheless, we detected 2 of A. cryaerophilus and 27 of A. butzleri isolates susceptible to cefotaxime, despite culture medium we used was complemented with other cephalosporin, i.e., cefoperazone. Since similar observation has been reported by other authors (Kabeya et al 2004, Shah et al 2012, Ü nver et al 2013, it seems that some Arcobacter isolates can be successfully isolated from studied material, irrespectively of their antibiotic susceptibility. However, taking into account the same reason, i.e., cephalosporin susceptibility, it is also plausible that other isolates were not recovered from studied material, thus care should be taken in reporting on actual incidence of this species.…”

“…The results of our study support this finding. In the study of Unver et al (2013) on domestic geese in Kars, Turkey, A. butzleri, A. cryaerophilus and A. skirrowii spp. were reported to be resistant to cloxacillin and ampicillin, and susceptible to enrofloxacin.…”

“…to antibiotics is important with regard to the development of doi: 10.17221/69/2016-VETMED nutritional media used for isolation, and with regard to the treatment of diseases observed in animals and humans (Unver et al 2013). Arcobacter spp.…”

“…In another relatively small study of 16 Arcobacter isolates (Unver et al, 2013), all proved to be resistant to cloxacillin, cefazolin, optochin, vancomycin, and fusidic acid, and most were susceptible to oxytetracycline, chloramphenicol, nitrofurantoin, amikacin, enrofloxacin, ofloxacin, erythromycin, ampicillin, sulbactam, and amoxicillin. However, the A. butzleri isolates were resistant to chloroamphenical and amoxicillin.…”
