“…The development of antimicrobial resistance in P. shigelloides is a matter of concern (Ekundayo et al, 2020). For example, P. shigelloides isolate from diseased T. sinensis exhibited resistance to aminoglycosides, amphenicols and tetracycline antimicrobials (Wu et al, 2004), P. shigelloides isolate from diseased Silurus asotus showed resistance to amphenicols and tetracycline antibiotics (Abdelhamed et al, 2018).…”

“…So far, several bacterial pathogens such as Aeromonas punctata, Aeromonas veronii, Enterobacter aerogenes and Stenotrophomonas maltophilia have been reported to cause this disease (Wu et al, 2000;Geng et al, 2006;Huang et al, 2010;Cao et al, 2017). Plesiomonas shigelloides is a Gram-negative, rod-shaped, motile bacterium which is widely distributed in freshwater (Khardori et al, 1988;Ekundayo et al, 2020), and its occurrence in clinical infections is usually found in warm waters especially in farming waters with temperatures of 25 to370C and pH values of 5 to 8 (Liu et al, 2015). However, little information is available on Plesiomonas shigelloides as a causal agent for enteritis in channel catfish.…”

“…The discrepancy in the resistance level of E. coli may be the result of the environmental heterogeneity among bathing places. Hierarchical cluster techniques have been reported to compare antibiogram profiles' similarities and the antibiotic disturbance of pathogens [27,29]. Cluster analysis of antibiogram profiles revealed the difference of resistance phenotypes between the seawater and beach sand.…”

“…Hierarchical cluster analysis of antibiotic susceptibility assay results was carried out using Complex Heatmap r package [26,27] in R version 3.6.2. All statistical analyses were conducted with SPSS version 23 (IBM, Armonk, NY, USA).…”

“…Treatment for infection by Plesiomonas shigelloides generally consists of oral rehydration, while in severe cases, the use of antimicrobials such as norfloxacin, trimethoprim, azithromycin, ceftriaxone, or ciprofloxacin is recommended [36,50]. In recent years, the isolation of Plesiomonas from the aquatic environment showing resistance to several antimicrobials, many of which are used in the treatment of infections, has been reported; it has been pointed out that antimicrobial resistance is the product of contamination by human activities, which has become a serious threat to public health and to these reservoir environments [51][52][53].…”
