Phytochemical profile and larvicidal activity of aqueous extract of Ocimum americanum against mosquito vectors

“…The quantitative phytochemical analysis of an aqueous extract of O. americanum revealed that the significant volume of phytochemicals such as alkaloids (9.21 ± 3.11 mg g −1 ), f lavonoids (12.56 ± 2.42 mg g −1 ), total phenolics (6.34 ± 1.52 mg g −1 ), tannin (11.56 ± 0.52 mg g −1 ), total carbohydrates (98.22 ± 1.45 mg g −1 ), and total proteins (56.18 ± 1.63 mg g −1 ) (Table 2). These results correlate with previous reports as solvent extract of O. americanum contained most essential phytochemicals such as alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, steroids, cardiac glycosides, tannins, terpenes, and phenolic compounds (Vidhya et al 2020;Deore et al 2021). Furthermore, the phytochemicals established in this study have been previously identified their human welfare activities, especially in medical and disease control.…”
