Antimicrobial Activity and Mechanism of Polyvinyl Chloride Composite Containing Inorganic Bacteriocide

Abstract: Bacterial infection is one of the most common and universal cause of disease spreading associated with medical and surgical environment. Antimicrobial function of plasticized polyvinyl chloride (PVC) will be useful for making hygienic environments. Here, we synthesized the PVC composite by the addition of inorganic bacteriocide containing silver, zinc and zeolite. And we investigated the growth inhibition rate for Staphylococcus aureus and Klebsiella pneumoniae which were analyzed in the presence of PVC compos… Show more

“…Silver/PVC nanocomposites proved to be an efficient antibacterial agent [ 21 ] using either ionic or metallic silver [ 22 ]. Evaluation of PVC compounds containing different doses of silver, zinc and zeolite clearly pointed out the formation of bacterial biofilms as the main factor of the antimicrobial effect of the additive [ 23 ]. Furthermore, an efficient antimicrobial powder based on guanidine, symmetrical porphyrin PVC plastics [ 24 , 25 ], and maleimido phenyl thiourea composite-based PVC powder [ 26 ] were reported.…”
