Antihyperglycemic, Vasodilator, and Diuretic Activities of Microencapsulated Bioactive Product from Moringa stenopetala Leaves Extract

Abstract: Moringa stenopetala has nutritional and medicinal values, which is widely used by the local communities. The study aimed to evaluate the antihyperglycemic, vasodilator, and diuretic activities of the microencapsulated bioactive product from M. stenopetala leaves extract. Microencapsulation of the extract was done by spray drying technique using maltodextrin and pectin as coating materials with the core: coating ratio of 1 : 6. Then, the antihyperglycemic, diuretic, and vasodilator activities were evaluated aft… Show more

“…e extracts also decreased postprandial BGL (P < 0.001) at 750 mg/kg dose [67]. e maltodextrin (9%) and pectin (1%) of leaves extract of M. stenopetala had also shown significant (P < 0.05) decrease in BGL with dosedependent manner in the same model [84]. e antihyperglycemic activity of M. stenopetala was supported by leaves extraction and fractionation in alloxaninduced male diabetic mice.…”

“…The potential mechanisms of action for the blood pressure-lowering effect of Moringa stenopetala were not determined in this study but have been explored by others. In vitro and animal studies show that Moringa stenopetala is a vasodilator [41,42], an angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor [43], and a diuretic [41,44], which ultimately leads to reduced blood pressure.…”

“…Phytochemicals play a major role in antihyperglycemic, antihyperlipidemic, and antioxidant activities (21,22). Bioactive compounds are obtained from various medicinal plant sources, including avonoids, phenolic, alkaloids, terpenoids, saponins, tannins, glycosides, glycolipids, dietary bres, carotenoids, anthocyanins have been reported to have potent antidiabetic activity (23).…”
