“…Based on previous research articles, bioactive compounds originating from mushroom species such as phenolics (phenolic acids and flavonoids), [2,3,6,7,30] polysaccharides and proteins [4,34] or polysaccharide-protein complexes [5,21] contribute significantly in their antioxidant potential of mushroom species. The obtained results for the contents of TP, TF and TPR are shown in Table 2.…”

“…[28] Also, hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) causes DNA damage through oxygen radical mechanisms that can generate multiple DNA modifications. [4] Compounds with antioxidant potential, may be either simple secondary metabolites (such as, phenolic acids and flavonoids) or highly polymerized compounds (e. g., lignins, melanins, tannins) and inhibit free radicals production or alternatively remove them. [28] Most often, extracts that contain more phenolic compounds express better antioxidant and/ or cytotoxic activities.…”

“…A significant antigenotoxic effect was determined on the interventional level in the cotreatment experiment. This could be explained by an additional activation of independent mechanisms for making the cell genome more resistant to oxidative damage in the presence of tested compounds: free radical scavenging, enhancement of the cell antioxidant capacity, and stimulation of cell's DNA repair [27].…”
