Antifungal susceptibility of Candida species isolated from candidura

Abstract: Candiduria is a common infection of the urinary tract. Evaluation of the susceptibility to antifungal drugs could be used for treatment and control of infection. Background: Candiduria is one of the most common symptoms of urinary tract infections caused by several species of Candida spp.. Several antifungals are available to treat such candidal infections. During the last decades, resistance to antifungal especially to non-albicans species has increased. Objectives: The present study aimed to evaluate the susc… Show more

“…In our study, 34% of the C. albicans isolates with MIC90 > 256 mg/L were found to be resistant to fluconazole. Similarly, Zarei Mahmoudabadi et al ( 33 ) showed that 55.2% of the C. albicans strains isolated from candiduria were resistant to fluconazole. In another study reported by the same authors, the resistance rate of C. albicans to fluconazole was 59.2% ( 34 ).…”

“…In comparison with the MIC values of hyssop oils from various geographic regions, [12,26,31] the studied Bulgarian hyssop oil demonstrated stronger inhibitory activity against medically important representatives of C. albicans, C. tropicalis and C. krusei. This fact could be explained by the more complex chemical composition of the hyssop oil from Bulgaria.…”

“…According to the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) and the European Committee on Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing (EUCAST), the antifungal susceptibility of Candida spp. should be determined by broth microdilution method, yet disk-diffusion assay and agarbased E-test are also used (5,6,8,17,18). Recently, CHROMagar Candida was used for isolation and presumptive identification of the main yeast species, yet precise identification and susceptibility testing have to be performed in clinically important fungi.…”
