Antifungal potential of cashew nut shell liquid in the control of plant pathogens

Abstract: ABSTRACT:Extracted from the fruit of Anacardium occidentale L., Cashew Nut Shell Liquid (CNSL) is a phenolic lipid that has potential biological use. Conventional pesticides are increasingly being replaced by natural products because of the impact that their mismanagement can have on human health and the environment. The objective of this work was to evaluate the fungicidal potential effect of CNSL on the fungi Colletotrichum gloesporioides and Lasiodiplodia theobromae, in particular its use in reducing negati… Show more

“…This concept distinguishes typical symptoms. This is in agreement with Garcia et al (2018), who concluded that CNSL had the highest antifungal potential in the control of C. gloeosporioides and L. theobromae in papaya fruits C. gloeosporioides and L. theobromae caused anthracnose and fruit rot, respectively. The bioactive compound of CNSL can prevent the inhibition of mycelial growth and spore production.…”

“…The use of natural products, which are less harmful to the environment and humans, instead of synthetic chemical components has been the subject of scientific papers (GARCIA et al, 2018). This research is justified by the economic importance of orange, coconut, and sweet potato crops; the damage caused by the above-mentioned diseases; the lack of studies on the properties of essential oils or major compounds against P. destruens; and the sensitivity of C. acutatum and T. paradoxa to the compounds present in M. ovata essential oils.…”
