Antifungal Activity of Selected IndigenousPseudomonasandBacillusfrom the Soybean Rhizosphere

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to isolate and select indigenous soil Pseudomonas and Bacillus bacteria capable of developing multiple mechanisms of action related to the biocontrol of phytopathogenic fungi affecting soybean crops. The screening procedure consisted of antagonism tests against a panel of phytopathogenic fungi, taxonomic identification, detection by PCR of several genes related to antifungal activity, in vitro detection of the antifungal products, and root colonization assays. Two isolates, identi… Show more

“…Estos resultados coinciden con lo reportado por Izzeddin y Medina [55], quienes al inocular semillas de diferentes hortalizas con cepas de Trichoderma, Pseudomonas y Bacillus, observaron mayor germinación de las semillas tratadas con respecto al testigo; asimismo, con los de León et al [56], Chavarría y Carmona [57], quienes reportan incrementos significativos en la tasa de emergencia de soya y melina al emplear estos L. “…This has led to research on therapeutic alternatives, particularly compounds from medicinal plants and microorganisms. To date, a large number of microbes have been investigated, including the genera Pseudomonas, Bacillus and Streptomyces known to produce a heterogeneous group of potent antimicrobial metabolites 18,19 . Examples of these are 2,4-diacetylphloroglucinol, pyoluteorin, pyrrolnitrin, hydrogen cyanide, hydrolytic enzymes, iron-chelating siderophores, and several cyclic lipodepsipeptides 20,21 .…”
