This study aimed to examine the preservative potential of Megaphrynium macrostachyum on fungi responsible for the deterioration of orange juice and corn Jell-O. The phytochemicals from plants' leaves were extracted with four solvents: acetone, aqueous, ethanol and hexane. The solvents were differently and tested against fungi isolated from orange juice and corn Jell-O using disc diffusion method. Phytochemical screening of the extracts from the leaves was carried out, and the most active extract was tested via GC-MS for the essential oils and HPLC fingerprinting. The toxicity test of the extracts against brine shrimp was carried out after exposure for 24 hours. The toxicity test showed that the extracts were non-toxic on the Brine Shrimps at LC 50 (379.21μg/ml and 107.21μg/ml for aqueous and ethanol extracts). The qualitative phytochemical test reported the presence of alkaloids, tannins, saponins, flavonoids, steroids and terpenoids in different extracts of the plant' leaves. The quantitative phytochemical determination of the most active extract revealed alkaloids with the highest contents of 107.48 mg/100 g. The GC-MS analyses of the fresh leaves of the plants revealed the presence of isodecane with the highest percentage at 15.56%. The GC-MS analyses of the dried leaves revealed isodecane with the highest percentage at 10.43%. The HPLC analysis revealed the presence of various phytochemical constituents in the dried leaves. This study has been able to establish the potency of Megaphrynium macrostachyum leaves on fungi associated with the spoilage of Citrus sinensis (orange) juice and Corn Jell-O ('Eko') which contribute to tremendous research towards the use and acknowledgment of natural antimicrobials for the preservation of food.

ABSTRACT. Many natural antimicrobial agents have been identified over the last decades, such as essential oils, which have a proven effect against bacteria and fungi found on feet. This paper investigates antifungal activity of thyme essential oil against Trichophyton interdigitale on sheepskins for footwear lining. Thyme essential oil showed the best antifungal activity on sheepskins for footwear lining. Thyme oil offers a much safer alternative to toxic biocides. Această lucrare investighează activitatea antifungică a uleiului esenţial de cimbru împotriva ciupercii Trichophyton interdigitale asupra pieilor de oaie pentru căptuşirea încălţămintei. Uleiul esenţial de cimbru a prezentat cea mai bună activitate antifungică asupra pielii de oaie pentru căptuşirea încălţămintei. Uleiul de cimbru oferă o alternativă mult mai sigură la biocidele toxice. De nombreux agents antimicrobiens naturels ont été identifiés au cours des dernières décennies, telles que les huiles essentielles, qui ont un effet éprouvé contre les bactéries et les champignons trouvés sur les pieds. Cet article étudie l'activité antifongique de l'huile essentielle de thym contre Trichophyton interdigitale sur les peaux de mouton pour la doublure de la chaussure. L'huile essentielle de thym a présenté la meilleure activité antifongique sur les peaux de mouton pour la doublure de la chaussure. L›huile de thym offre une alternative beaucoup plus sûre aux biocides toxiques. Les résultats de cette étude peuvent être utilisés dans le développement d'applications pour l'assainissement des composants de la chaussure.

IZVODBolesti biljaka izazvane infekcijama patogenim gljivama mogu dovesti do smanjenja kapaciteta biljnog rasta ili naneti mnogo ozbiljniju štetu dovodeći do smrti biljaka i značajnih gubitaka u proizvodnji hrane. Veliki broj istraživanja je u poslednje vreme posvećen proučavanju sekundarnih metabolita koje proizvode vrste roda Bacillusa koji se mogu koristiti za kontrolu različitih biljnih patogena. U ovoj studiji prikazan je jak antifungalni efekat lipopeptidnih ekstrakata iz izolata roda Bacillus prema 11 testiranih gljiva, sa najnižim minimalnim inhibitornim koncentracijama od 0.008 mg/ml,naFusarium semitectum. Proučavanje interakcija lipopeptidnih ekstrakata međusobno, kao i u kombinacijama sa etarskim uljima, ukazalo je na postojanje sinergističkog efekta za neke kombinacije u in vitro testiranjima. Kombinacija lipopeptidnog ekstrakta izolata SS-12.6 i ulja čubra na rast Alternaria alternata, kao i kombinacija ovog ekstrakta i ulja timijana u delovanju na Fusarium nygamai je ostvarila sinergistički efekat. U kombinaciji oba ulja sa ekstraktom SS-12.6 sinergistička aktivnost je jedino zabeležena na rast Fusarium solani. Do danas je pokazano da kombinacija komplementarnih bioloških pristupa sa aditivnim i/ili sinergističkim efektom može da obezbedi veću konzistenciju i efikasnost u biokontroli, pa u tom smislu postoji sve veće interesovanje za različite agense kao mogućoj zameni konvencionalnih sintetičkih fungicida u cilju zaštite kultivisanih biljaka od fitopatogenih gljiva.
